Pioneer Services, A Division of MidCountry Bank, is seeking a Director of Collections to join our team at our Base of Operations located on the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City, Missouri.

The Director of Collections will define, plan, and execute collection & recovery strategies by utilizing available resources to achieve delinquency and net charge-off objectives and maximize profits. The position will lead a department of around 65 employees, covering the full range of account delinquency and charge-off aging. This role will ensure operational goals are achieved (or exceeded) and all collections activity is conducted in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies.

The core objectives of this position include: 

  • Collections Strategy Development: Working with Collection Managers to set strategic direction and make tactical adjustments to ensure that Collections Department delivers delinquency and net charge-off numbers that exceed business targets
  • Collections Performance Leadership: Evaluating production metrics to identify problem areas and making appropriate changes in order to mitigate risk and/or optimize collection performance
  • Collections Oversight & Compliance: Examining strategies and processes regularly to ensure that Collections Department is acting in accordance with laws, regulations, and policies to eliminate risks and keep potential losses at a minimum.  

Other aspects of the job include:

  • Monitoring, tracking, and analyzing trends to identify strategic business opportunities
  • Supervising collector goal-setting process and launching periodic contests as needed
  • Establishing, maintaining and implementing policies and procedures as needed to ensure adequate collections oversight
  • Verifying collection process controls and assessing their effectiveness in mitigating operational risks
  • Reviewing and disseminating information on new or amended regulations and assisting in the implementation of changes
  • Assisting Collection Managers in troubleshooting issues that require special handling (e.g., responding to escalated customer concerns, handling sensitive personnel issues, etc.)
  • Partnering with business leaders inside and outside the company to identify best practices that can be leveraged to improve efficiency and optimize results of collections and recovery efforts
  • Recruiting, training, and developing Collection Managers and staff to perform at best-in-class standards, and creating an environment of achievement and accountability that cultivates success
  • Taking a hands-on approach to ensure that Collection Managers are actively engaged with team members to identify issues and/or opportunities
  • Ensuring that Collection Managers are overseeing and providing compliance training to all team members
  • Special projects, as assigned by Chief Collections Officer or Executive Leadership team

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  •  Bachelor's Degree (in business, finance, or related field), or equivalent work experience
  • 7+ years of proven Collections Leadership experience required; Experience leading collections in consumer lending industry strongly preferred
  • 5+ years of management experience required; Experience leading teams as a second-line manager preferred
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to consumer collection activities is required
